thumbnail Hello,

They have yo-yoed in the odds but Melbourne Victory now seem to be showing their true colours, putting them firmly again among the title favourites

As Ange Postecoglou begins to work his trademark magic, so the money is starting to come for Melbourne Victory to win the 2012-13 A-League title.

The Victory opened at $5.10 at Betfair to win the title this season, following the appointment of two-time A-League winning manager, and were widely tipped at the start of the season to be the team - along with Sydney FC - most likely to prevent Postecoglou's former club Brisbane Roar from winning a third-consecutive title.

But after Melbourne won just one of their first four matches to sink to the bottom of the table, the Victory got out to as much as $12 to win this season's A-League grand final at Betfair.

However, after a run of three wins and a draw in their past four games to rise to third spot on the table, the Victory are now back into second favourites to win the championship this season.

Betfair's Daniel Bevan said Victory have firmed back into $5.80 - behind only the Mariners at $5.60 - to win the A-League in what is shaping as one of the most even seasons in the competition's short history.

Victory have attracted over 16 percent of money already wagered on the A-League title race and are likely to shorten even further in grand final betting if they win at home against fifth-placed Perth Glory on Friday.

They could usurp both Brisbane and Sydney by becoming the first club to win three A-League titles this season.

However, the consistent Mariners, in second place on the table, remain the title favourites.

They are shorter elsewhere at $5.50 with Centrebet, $5 with sportsbet.com.au and $4.75 with TAB Sportsbet.

Victory are the second favourites at Betfair at $5.80 ahead of league-leaders Adelaide United on $6.20, while those two clubs are equal-second favourites at TAB Sportsbet at $5.50.

At sportsbet.com.au, it is Adelaide who are second favourites paying $5.50, with the Victory at $6.

While Victory are turning their slow start to the season around, things are going from bad to worse for Sydney FC, who were the other team expected to challenge for the title this season after signing Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero.

But after eight rounds the Sky Blues are last on the table, with just two wins and six losses and still searching for a new manager after Ian Crook resigned after just six games in charge.

The Sky Blues were as short as $6.40 in early title betting at Betfair but are now priced at $17.50 - above only the Melbourne Heart at $20 - and even below local rivals Western Sydney, who are now at $16.50 to win the title having made a promising start in their first season in the competition.

The Wanderers are actually in the top six with nearly a third of the season completed and look great value at $2.74 at Betfair to stay there, given the four sides below them in Wellington, Melbourne Heart, Brisbane and Sydney FC are all struggling.
