thumbnail Hello,

Victory might be favourite to see off old foes United, but it is the visitors that have attracted most of the money for the match at Docklands on Friday Indonesia   By PAUL GOUGH

Melbourne Victory are favourites to finally get their A-League season up and running when they host arch-rivals Adelaide at Etihad Stadium on Friday.

However, punters are wary of Ange Postecoglou's under-performing team.

With the dual A-League championship winning coach in charge for the new season, the Victory were tipped to be the big improvers this season after missing out on the finals in 2011-12.

ButVictory are yet to pick up a single point, after losing their opening match 2-1 to city rivals Melbourne Heart before copping a 5-0 pasting off reigning premiers and Postecoglou's former club Brisbane last Saturday.

Adelaide, in contrast, have made a strong start and sit on top of the table after two rounds, with the Reds the only team to have won both their matches so far.

So while Melbourne Victory are the $2.44 favourites at Betfair to win on Friday - with Adelaide at $3.15 and the draw at $3.45 - the money so far is for the visitors.

Adelaide have so far attracted 77 percent of money wagered on the match at Betfair compared to just 19 percent for the home side, although those figures will surely even up come closer to game time.

The Victory are also favourites at both TAB Sportsbet and but at shorter odds of $2.25, as are Adelaide at $3.

The draw is priced at $3.20 at TAB Sportsbet and $3.30 at

Melbourne Victory to win v Adelaide United at $2.44 at Betfair
Melbourne Victory to win 1-0 v Adelaide United at $9 at Betfair

However, while the Victory were simply awful in Brisbane, as the two-time A-League champions slumped to their heaviest defeat, the team will be strengthened this week by the return of Mark Milligan, Archie Thompson and Marco Rojas from international duty.

Milligan and Thompson may well be tired after the long flight home from Doha [following the Socceroos' come from behind win over Iraq in their World Cup qualifier], but the latter will certainly arrive back for club duties on a high after scoring the winner for Australia

Not surprisingly Thompson is the equal $6 favourite with Adelaide's Sergio Van Dijk at to score the game's opening goal on Friday, with Melbourne's Danny Allsopp and Adelaide's Bruce Djite next in betting at $7.

In correct-score betting, a 1-1 draw is the early favourite at $7 at Betfair, but we like the look of Victory to win 1-0 at $9 at Betfair.
