The Gunners' boss says his side were on a good run in the league before successive cup defeats at the Emirates Stadium knocked the confidence out of his now nervous players

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that the losses to Blackburn and Bayern Munich in the last week have disrupted his side's Premier League progress, after they left it late to earn a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

The Frenchman says his side were on a good run in the league before they crashed out of the FA Cup to Rovers and surrendered three away goals to the Bavarians in the Champions League in the last seven days.

Arsenal got back to winning ways courtesy of a double from Santi Cazorla, but the victory was far from straightforward as the Gunners only just managed to claim the three points after a nervous afternoon against Paul Lambert's men.

"We are on a good run in the [Premier League] and we have been affected by the major disappointments we have had, you can see that in the nerves," he told Sky Sports News.

"We could have scored many many more goals today, but we got the three points and that’s what counts."

Cazorla's two clinical finishes, the second of which coming in the last 10 minutes, were enough to see Arsenal to the three points. After the game Wenger found positives in the team's attitude and performance.

He added: "Yes, [Cazorla] got us two very important goals and I'm very happy with the team attitude and team performance."

The 63-year-old also urged Arsenal fans to get behind the players during this testing period.

"We need their support, no matter how disappointed they are, " he said.
