Newcastle can still beat Metalist, warns Cisse
The Senegalese striker believes the Magpies can still reach the Europa League last 16 despite being held to a goalless draw at St James' Park on Thursday evening
Papiss Cisse insists Newcastle can still knock Metalist Kharkiv out of the Europa League despite being denied victory by the assistant referee's flag at St James' Park on Thursday evening. The 27-year old had two goals disallowed for offside during a game in which Newcastle dominated but were ultimately frustrated by the Ukrainian side.
"I think they were both goals, but it is down to the linesman. He said 'no' and once he's made his decision, it's a no,” the striker told The Independent.
"There's nothing you can do, it's so frustrating. We should be talking about a win. That would have been very, very good for the team.
"The other team tried very hard and denied us. We just couldn't get the win.
"But we can win the second leg and we will be going over there to give it everything. We are confident of still doing the job and getting through."
Alan Pardew's men now travel to the Ukraine next week knowing either a score draw or a win will take them through to the last 16 of the competition.
