Hodgson recommends Lampard remains in Europe to reach 100 England caps
The Chelsea star's contract ends in the summer and he has been linked with a move to MLS but the Three Lions manager does not think that he should follow David Beckham's example
England manager Roy Hodgson has implored Frank Lampard to remain in Europe should he leave Chelsea in the summer, adding that it will greatly improve his chances of getting to 100 caps. The midfielder made his 94th appearance for the Three Lions during the 2-1 win over Brazil at Wembley, scoring his 27th goal in the process, while Ashley Cole became only the seventh ever national centurion.
With his Chelsea contract expiring in the summer, there has been much speculation as to whether he will remain at Stamford Bridge or move abroad, with MLS suggested as a possible destination, but Hodgson hopes that he does not follow the example of David Beckham.

"I don’t know what his future is at Chelsea – that's between him and the club – but I know he's going to have a lot of offers if he decides to leave, and I hope we still see him in Europe next season, because it makes my task a bit easier. If he does follow David it complicates things but it doesn't rule it out."
Hodgson also had high praise for man-of-the-match Jack Wilshere, admitting that he had been reluctant to push him too far but that the midfielder has shown that he is comfortable in virtually any situation.
I was trying to protect him yesterday but, with the way he played tonight, it seems you can crank up the pressure as much as you like on him and he's comfortable with it," the 65-year-old continued.
The former West Brom manager went on to talk about the occasion of having Brazil at Wembley and expressed his delight with the evening as the match attracted a big crowd and a win to coincide with the FA's 150th anniversary.

"We were hoping things would go our way, what with the FA's 150th celebrations, but we knew it wouldn't be easy because we'd chosen to play Brazil but I'm pleased. I thought we played well, and we certainly didn't steal anything.
"We had a crazy spell after half-time when Gary Cahill got caught in possession and Fred scored, and then we gave him another chance where he hit the crossbar, but apart from that we coped quite well with the problems and questions they asked of us, and we asked plenty of them ourselves.
"I hope it gives them belief. We had a lot of young players out there, but I felt we had a good blend of youth and experience. It's nice to see, and I hope it convinces them that they can play well enough together to win matches against these teams.
"We had that spell at the start of the second half, and Brazil smelled blood and went after us. But we did well to not only survive that period, but to get ourselves back into the game."
