Manchester City draw a 'positive' start under Benitez, insists Cech
The Czech Republic international is content with the team's 'positive' start under their new Spanish boss, and believes the club have begun to improve upon their recent poor form
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech says he is happy with the club's "positive" start under Rafa Benitez following Sunday's goalless draw with Manchester City. The Blues held the reigning Premier League champions in a game of few chances, as the new Chelsea boss received a rough reception from the Stamford Bridge crowd.
But the 30-year-old shot-stopper says the club can now build on the result against Man City, and believes the side have now ended the recent run of bad form which resulted in the dismissal of former manager Roberto Di Matteo.
"I think it was a positive result," Cech told the club's official website. "We've been on a spell where we haven't been winning games and we've been losing, so we wanted to stop that.
"We played the champions, it was an interesting performance in a way, but we kept a clean sheet and, at times, we were a danger, so it was a good start.
"It's never easy when a new manager comes in because he doesn't have time to work, so it's good to start with a positive result."
The Czech Republic international also insisted that the players need to give Benitez a chance and allow him to make his mark on the team.
"We, as players, need to adapt quickly and start thinking positively in order to work with the manager and give him what he needs to help get results," added Cech.
"We need to put things right, we got a good point, and hopefully on Wednesday we'll win our game and push on from there.
"He's here to change things, to put us in a winning mode and he needs to be given a chance."
