Suarez is not for sale & Liverpool will strengthen in January, declares chairman Werner

Latest Manchester United keen to keep Nani, reveals Ferguson Previous

The Reds chief has insisted that the Uruguayan will not be allowed to leave the club, and hopes that they can be more successful when the transfer window re-opens

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has promised that striker Luis Suarez will not be sold in the January transfer window, declaring the club's intention to strengthen the squad with new recruits.

Suarez has started the 2012-13 season in scintillating form and leads the Premier League goalscoring charts having struck 10 times already.

His fine displays have led to speculation that Manchester City could make a bid in the New Year, but Werner insists that under no circumstances will the Uruguayan leave Anfield.

"He's a beautiful player to watch and as a Liverpool fan I hope I'm watching him for many years to come," Werner told reporters. "We wouldn't even consider selling him, absolutely not.

"We made a long-term contract with him in the summer and we are going to see a lot of his play at Liverpool."

Werner is also confident that Brendan Rodgers will be able to add to his squad in the upcoming window after the club was criticised for its lack of arrivals over the summer.

"Our intention is to strengthen but actions will speak louder than words," he added. "That is certainly our intention though.

"We know that January is a challenging time and I don't want to say we've got X or Y player, but hopefully the fans will be pleased with what we do accomplish.

"I don't want to say more than I've said in that it is our intention to strengthen the squad. But our intention is to deliver is our priority."
