Tottenham to hold talks with Kick It Out and Metropolitan Police over anti-Semitic chanting

The Society of Black Lawyers recently issued an ultimatum to the north London club calling for them to fight the use of the word "Yid" or face further legal action

Tottenham have revealed they are to hold talks with Kick It Out and Metropolitan Police next week to discuss the issue of anti-Semitism.

The north London club have recently faced criticism from the Society of Black Lawyers [SBL] for an alleged failure to clamp down on chanting of that nature from supporters.

The SBL hit out at specifically at the use of the word "Yid", though Tottenham have argued that fans sing the controversial term "as a defence mechanism in order to own the term and thereby deflect anti-Semitic abuse".

The Society have since issued an ultimatum, insisting that they will escalate their claim should such chanting not be dealt with by November 30.

A Spurs statement read: "The club has arranged the meeting in order to discuss measures to be taken both inside and outside stadia.

"A key component for this debate is for us to understand the views of the fans in relation to discrimination in sport.

"At a time when discrimination is high on the football agenda, it is easy for fans and players to forget the great strides made over the last 20 years. But, there is still a long way to go.

"We are therefore delighted to support Kick It Out as they ask supporters to have their say in the biggest-ever fans' consultation on tackling discrimination in football.”
