Toffees boss has revealed that the club are near to completing a move for the South African midfielder, who had a successful loan spell at Goodison Park from Tottenham last season
The 30-year-old South African spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park after initially leaving the Toffees for Spurs in 2011, and talks have been ongoing over a deal believed to be in the region of £5 million.
"I think we are much closer to Pienaar and hopefully in time I will have something, but I don't quite have it yet," the Toffees' boss told reporters after his side's 1-1 pre-season draw with Motherwell.
Steven Naismith has already signed at Goodison park after receiving clearance to complete his move after fleeing the Rangers newco club.
The striker came on as a substitute in the second half at Fir Park, and Moyes was satisfied with the impression made by the former Kilmarnock man, despite having missed the end of last season through injury.
He continued: "It was pleasing to see Steven come on. I heard last night about six o'clock that he was cleared.
"We just have to make sure that his knee is right. He is coming on well. He is a month behind everyone else but hopefully he won't be too far away."
