Montpellier coach Rene Girard revealed that their star striker's transfer is moving forward with Arsenal clearly in the lead for Olivier Giroud.
Giroud had been previously linked with several other top clubs including Bayern Munich in recent weeks, but Montpellier manager Rene Girard revealed that the North London club were leading the chase.
Girard said, "Arsenal are very interested and Giroud wants to play in England, if Arsene [Wenger] agrees with the president [Louis Nicollin], he will sign for them".
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been an admirer of Giroud for some time and sees him as a strong addition to the Gunners squad, especially with questions still surrounding the future of Robin van Persie a the Emirates.
While Montpellier would be reluctant to part with their prized striker as they head into the Champions League in the 2012-13 season, they appear to be resigned to losing him.
Currently, Giroud is away on international duty with France in Poland and Ukraine for the Euro 2012 tournament and will be keen to tie up a transfer following the conclusion of the Euros.
