'He would never let you down' - Gerrard hails Kuyt after Liverpool departure
The Reds skipper admits he will miss the Dutchman's presence at Anfield, highlighting the reliability and trustworthiness of the forward in light of his recent decision to leave
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has praised the contribution of Dirk Kuyt to the club after the Dutchman agreed to join Turkish side Fenerbahce.Kuyt saw his first-team chances limited under Kenny Dalglish last season but still managed to play a major part in Liverpool’s only trophy triumph during his six-year spell at the club, when he came off the bench to score in their League Cup final clash against Cardiff City.
And Gerrard has been quick to show his appreciation for the departing Kuyt.
"Dirk is a great player, a great person and was a great servant to Liverpool,” the 32-year-old told the club's official website.
"From the first day he came to the club, he was someone you could trust and knew that he would never let you down on the pitch.
"I know how much scoring against Cardiff in the League Cup final meant to him but he was already assured a part of the club's history even before helping win that trophy.
"I will miss him around the place and I wish him and his family all the best in Turkey."
Kuyt made 285 appearances for Liverpool since his £9 million move from Feyenoord in 2006, scoring 71 goals.
