The Reds captain struck the first hat-trick in a Merseyside derby since Ian Rush in 1982 to inspire his side to a 3-0 win over Everton at Anfield on Tuesday night
Kenny Dalglish hailed “fantastic” Steven Gerrard after the Liverpool captain struck a superb hat-trick to fire his side to victory in the Merseyside derby. The Reds ensured a miserable 10th anniversary in charge for Everton boss David Moyes as Gerrard scored with three expertly-taken finishes to record the first hat-trick in the fixture since Ian Rush in 1982.
“I don’t think anyone can doubt Steven’s quality,” Dalglish told reporters after the game. “He has been a fantastic player for this club for his whole career and he always will be.
"There is no way I can extol his virtues and do him justice. The three goals he scored tonight were fantastic.
“I've not got the vocabulary to add to all the things people have said about Steven Gerrard but the important thing is we put in a fantastic performance and put three points on the board.
“Steven will rightly get the headlines but he will be the first to say he got help from his team-mates.
“The result reflected the performance for us. We're delighted that we've finally got the reward for a great performance here.”
