STATE PICKS

Western Australia's lead up to the finals series took a back seat, with Sorrento claiming back-to-back State Cup titles on Saturday, edging out Balcatta 4-3.

Daryl Platten's header deep into extra-time proved the difference in what was an end-to-end contest, but the second-placed Sorrento will be looking to go top of the league when they face league-leading Bayswater this weekend.

South Australia also saw its cup final played out, with Metro Stars defeating second-division minor premiers Para Hills 3-1. This weekend sees the Super League finals kick off, with Adelaide City hosting the Raiders, while Metro Stars travel to face the Blue Eagles.

In Queensland's State League, Brisbane Strikers rested on their huge lead in the league and laurels, as they continued to lumber into the finals series.

FNQ Bulls cut the league margin down to 12 after their 3-0 defeat of the former NSL champions on the weekend, while in the Brisbane Premier League, Redlands United stayed atop with their 5-1 rout of Olympic FC.

Belconnen and Cooma shared the points in what could be a grand final preview in the nation's capital, playing out a 2-2 draw, while Olympic lost to lowly Canberra City, with their finals spot already assured.

In Tasmania, the Northern League marked its dominance over the South in the first week of the finals, with three of their teams going through to the semi-finals compared to the the latter's one. The sole representative in South Hobart, however, sent a message with their 7-0 demolition of reigning Northern League champions Prospect.

In Northern NSW's finals, Edgeworth pulled off the proverbial smash-and-grab over Newcastle Jets' youth side, scoring all three of their goals in injury time, while Hamilton Olympic secured a spot in this year's final with their 3-1 win over Broadmeadow Magic.
