THE WEEKEND STORY

Marconi Stallions sealed their top-five spot thanks to a 2-0 win at Rockdale City Suns. Former Melbourne Victory striker Nathan Elasi and veteran Jamie McMaster, who had stints at both the Central Coast Mariners and Leeds United earlier in his career, were on the scoresheet. Minor premiers Bonnyrigg underlined their championship credentials with a 3-0 thrashing of Sydney Olympic. White Eagles striker Robbie Younis all but wrapped up the golden boot with his brace, taking his tally to 19 league goals for the season. Parramatta's relegation was confirmed despite their 1-0 win over Manly United. Blacktown Spartans held on for a 0-0 draw at Sydney United 58 to ensure they avoid the drop, while the Sutherland Sharks kept their slim finals chances alive with a 2-1 win over Blacktown City and APIA Leichhardt were 3-1 victors over South Coast Wolves.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEKEND

Marconi Stallions

Needing to avoid defeat to secure their spot in the top five, the Stallions recorded a 2-0 win over Mark Rudan's Rockdale City Suns. Elasi struck a powerful 25-yard strike past Aaron Liddell for the opener on 22 minutes. Elasi, 22, turned provider on the hour-mark as he squared a pass for McMaster, who scored the sealer from the edge of the area.

AFTERTHOUGHTS

Sydney Olympic, Marconi and South Coast Wolves may all have secured their finals places, but they appear to be playing for second place at the moment. Bonnyrigg's 3-0 belting of Olympic underlined their dominance throughout the campaign and highlights the damage they are capable of doing beyond this weekend's final round.
