THE WEEKEND STORY

The three Friday games saw two 1-1 draws, with both home teams coming from a goal down to salvage a point.  Bentleigh got on level terms late against Hume City, while Oakleigh shared the spoils with Green Gully. Richmond won their third on the bounce away to South Melbourne, who are in crisis mode after the debacle that was their last fifteen minutes. Dandenong steadied the ship with a resounding 4-1 win over Moreland, while a Milos Lujic hat-trick gave Northcote the points over Melbourne Knights. In the round's final fixture, Heidelberg and Southern Stars played out a 2-2 draw.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEKEND

Richmond

Upon the transfer window's opening, the Eagles have picked up points with aplomb, picking up the maximum nine points. The likes of Tom Cahill and Hamlet Armenian, who in particular struggled to force his way into regular game time at Dandenong, have provided the Eagles with greater vitality and versatility. It was a robust performance at Albert Park on Friday, Richmond gradually turning the match in the middle of the park and sealed the win in heated scenes. With Steven Topalovic still to return, they are timing their run well.

AFTERTHOUGHTS

Notwithstanding the good football on display at Lakeside, there were some ugly scenes on Friday. After Trent Rixon's equaliser, Tomislav Milardovic came in for some unfortunate treatment from some South fans - despite having what was later confirmed as a broken jaw - after an incident that saw Rixon dismissed. South coach Peter Tsolakis was also given his marching orders following the ensuing fracas, and the whispers around Lakeside on his futute have now turned into a growing rumble as South's priority now becomes simply staying up.
