THE WEEKEND STORY

League leaders Bonnyrigg White Eagles saw their clash against third-placed South Coast Wolves on Saturday washed out due to the extreme weather in Sydney. It was not the only game to be postponed, with APIA Leichhardt's encounter against Sutherland Sharks 25 kilometres east also being rained out. Blacktown City took advantage and moved to within six points of the White Eagles with a 1-0 victory over Manly United on the newly laid synthetic turf at Cromer Park. Rockdale City Suns made it three wins in their past four games with a 2-0 win over Sydney Olympic thanks to a brace from former Gold Coast United striker Dylan Macallister. Blacktown Spartans moved into the top five with a third-consecutive win on Saturday, defeating Marconi Stallions 2-1. In the final game of the weekend, Sydney United and last-placed Parramatta Eagles played out a scoreless draw.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEKEND

Dylan Macallister (Rockdale City Suns)

Looking to keep match fit and trying to earn a new deal in the A-League, Macallister netted a brace to see the Suns to an upset 2-0 win over former club Sydney Olympic. The 30-year-old had been out of contract since Gold Coast United folded, and is now hoping to impress to be given another chance in the top flight.

AFTERTHOUGHTS

"Sydney United 58's struggles continue to surprise, and a scoreless draw against lowly Parramatta would have been an outing they had marked down as a win. Mike Gibson has taken over as coach, and a turn around in fortunes is much needed at Edensor Park."
- Dejan

"Blacktown City remain in touch with NSWPL league-leaders Bonnyrigg White Eagles after a 1-0 win over Manly United. City are six points behind the White Eagles but have played an extra game. Whether they can catch Bonnyrigg remains to be seen. "
- David
