The Real Madrid midfielder believes that Les Bleus and the Three Lions are capable of pulling off a surprise in Poland and Ukraine despite their low-key build upSpain midfielder Xabi Alonso has voiced his opinion that England and France have the quality and tradition to go far at Euro 2012 despite the low expectations surrounding the two nations.
The Three Lions and Les Bleus are not among the top favourites to win this summer's tournament, but the Real Madrid midfielder has warned that the two countries are capable of springing a surprise in Poland and Ukraine.
"France and England are in that bunch of teams who are capable of going far. They are part of that group because of the players they have and their respective histories," Alonso was quoted as saying on the official Fifa website.
"They have this competitive instinct and even if they aren't talked about much with respect to this competition, they are more than able of attaining their targets."
England and France have both been drawn in Group D alongside Ukraine and Sweden.
