Huth denies playing in the Premier League has hampered his international chances

Huth denies playing in the Premier League has hampered his international chances

The Stoke City defender insists he is happy to be left out of Joachim Low's squad to travel to Poland and Ukraine as the national team coach simply "likes other players"

Robert Huth has dismissed claims that playing outside of Germany has hampered his chances of being called up to the national side for Euro 2012.

The Stoke City defender took to Twitter expressing his disappointment at not making the squad to travel to Poland and Ukraine but went on to dismiss his words as "entertainment" after not being involved with the national side since 2009.

"The only reason [I wasn't selected] is that [national team coach Joachim] Low likes other players, of whom he thinks they would be more helpful for him," Huth explained.

"Hopefully Germany will reach the final and hopefully they will win. It is about time that Germany win something!" - Robert Huth
"It doesn't matter of you play in England, Spain or anywhere else. He has his type of players, with whom he also has success. That I'm here [in England] has never played a role."

"I didn't see any chance at all [for me to be called up]. You know how Twitter works, you want to entertain there. I didn't expect to be nominated. I haven't been part of the squad for three years."

The centre-back has not been contacted by Low since the announcement of the squad, and is not expecting to hear from the coach due to his busy schedule.

"He has no time to call everyone and ask 'How are you? How are you feeling?' He has other things to concentrate on. The Euros for example," Huth continued.

Huth also discussed England's chances of winning the tournament under new coach Roy Hodgson.

"They have a new coach and who knows?" he said. "Maybe they will be totally confused at this tournament and lose every game. Or they might thrash it out until they find common ground like Denmark in 1992 and suddenly win."

Huth is keen for his own nation to taste success in Poland and Ukraine, however, and believes the time has come for die Mannschaft to seal a tournament victory.

"Maybe they will be totally confused at this tournament and lose every game. Or they might thrash it out until they find common ground like Denmark in 1992 and suddenly win" - Huth on England's chances at Euro 2012
"Hopefully Germany will reach the final and hopefully they will win. It is about time that Germany win something!"

The former Middlesbrough man also discussed who he thinks are the best defenders available to Low.

"[Holger] Badstuber and [Mats] Hummels, no doubt," He claimed. "The age is also always important. Hummels is 23 and already became German champion twice. Badstuber is even younger. It is incredible.

"I have seen a lot of games of Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Badstuber makes sense, also because he is left-footed, and of course Hummels. They both played a very good season.

"[Jerome] Boateng played as a central defender at Bayern lately, that might be a change for him, at the World Cup he played on the left side. But it's good that he plays all of the three positions, if someone gets a yellow card or is injured.

"[Phillip] Lahm is a definite, so it would be Lahm, Badstuber, Hummels, Boateng."

Despite being overlooked, Huth believes that Low is a superb manager and praised the national coach's attention to detail and his bravery to make key decisions.

"He is a true football expert! He knows everything about football, tactics. But he has also his expectations for the players. If they don't fulfil this, he is not afraid to change the team to win," he added.

"He is a great coach and of course also has a tough side."
