Caulker & Ince set to learn fate at Uefa appeal hearing over Serbia clashes

The Under-21 pair were punished following a brawl but could face further action, including the possibility of increased fines, with the case set to be heard on Friday

England Under-21 duo Steven Caulker and Thomas Ince could face further action at a Uefa appeal hearing on Friday following incidents that occurred during the Young Lions' match with Serbia in October.

Stuart Pearce's side won the game 1-0, but the match was marred by racist chanting and ugly scenes with missiles thrown on to the pitch and players and officials of both sides clashing at the end of the game.

The Blackpool and Tottenham youngsters were given one and two-match bans respectively, following their involvement but could face further action depending on the outcome of the hearing.

The Football Association did lodge an appeal on behalf of the players but Uefa subsequently launched an appeal of their own which could now see further punishments handed out.

Along with Ince and Caulker, four Serbian players and two coaches were also punished, although the FA were surprised any of their team had been sanctioned.

"It is the FA's vehement belief that its players and staff acted correctly in the face of provocation, including racist abuse and missiles being throwm," said Alex Horne, FA general secretary.

"We are therefore surprised to see that two of our players have been given suspensions."

Stuart Pearce is due to attend the hearing at Uefa's headquarters in Switzerland on Friday.
