The Malaysia international forward left his homeland on Friday, as he edges closer towards becoming the second of his countrymen to play in the Portuguese league
Fakri initially received the offer last August, but was forced to postpone it due to his AFF Suzuki Cup commitments with the national team.
Nevertheless, Fakri's personal manager Faisal Zakariah confirmed that he will be heading to England for a few days, before travelling to Portugal to finalise the deal.
"He will be departing [Friday] and will be dropping by in England for a few days first. Then he will fly over to Portugal to conclude the deal," he told Utusan Malaysia
"From what I've gathered, Athletico SC's first match of 2013 will be on the 6th of January and Fakri has a bright chance of featuring in that one if his International Transfer Certificate [ITC] is processed quickly.
If confirmed, Fakri will become the second Malaysian to ply his trade in Portugal, after Nazmi Faiz signed for SC Beira Mar earlier this year.
Capable of playing in any position up front, Fakri has often been selected into the national squad by Datuk K. Rajagopal, despite concerns over his consistency. However, there is no denying the fact that Fakri remains a terrific forward when on song.
Rumours claim that Fakri also received an offer from a unnamed Portuguese First Division side, but opted for Athletico SC with hopes of featuring more often for the Segunda Divisao outfit.
