Copa America Vanishing Spray backed for global introduction by fans worldwide
After having been trialled successfully in both North and South America, use of the spray designed to help referees at free kicks has been encouraged by supporters
Use of the spray, which has been designed to mark 10 yards between the ball and the wall at free kicks, is set to be discussed at the upcoming AGM of the International Football Association Board (IFAB), along with other issues such as goalline technology systems and additional assistant referees.
The board will look into whether the spray can help speed up the process of dead-ball situations, as referees look to prevent those defending from encroaching towards the free kick taker.
The spray, which creates a white line similar to other pitch markings, disappears within 45 seconds without leaving any lasting mark on the playing surface.
A total of 59,217 people voted across our global network, and 14.11% of Goal.com's readers feel that more testing is required before it is rolled out globally while only 13% don't support its introduction.
John from LA commented: "I think it actually saves time because you don't have the ref having to tell the wall to keep moving back. You can see where the wall has to be and if they move forward then just award them a card. They eventually learn and the wall never moves and save time in the long run."
Big Red Nut from Warrington agreed, stating: "I've been saying this should be brought in since I saw refs using it a couple of years ago in Mexico during a Man Utd tour. Great Idea."
The IFAB is made up of Fifa and the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish federations and is the only body in world football than can make amendments to the Laws of the Game. The body's AGM will take place on Sunday March 3 in Surrey, England.
