A-League
Team Of The Week:

Table/Results

GOALKEEPER

Justin Pasfield
Central Coast Mariners

Aside from some questionable kicking early on, Pasfield acquitted himself well in the grand final re-match after inheriting the gloves from Mat Ryan, who has left a massive void between the sticks for the reigning champions. An honourable mention should go to Jacob Spoonley, who was unfortunate to end up on the losing side for Wellington Phoenix at home to Brisbane Roar after repeatedly repelling Besart Berisha and co.

DEFENDERS

Pedj BOJIC
Sydney FC

Pablo CONTRERAS
Melbourne Victory

Nikola PETKOVIC
Sydney FC

Storm ROUX
Central Coast Mariners

Bojic immediately looked at home on Sydney FC's right flank, providing energy and penetration from deep positions, while Petkovic was an assured presence in central defence on his first appearance. Contreras' debut performance indicated Ange Postecoglou may have made the right call in recruiting a defender as marquee, and Roux, Bojic's replacement at the Mariners, showed plenty of promise in Gosford.

MIDFIELDERS

Ivan FRANJIC
Brisbane Roar

Youssouf Hersi
Western Sydney

Carlos Hernandez
Wellington Phoenix

Marcelo Carrusca
Adelaide United

Franjic starred in an advanced midfield role for the Roar, driving at the Phoenix defence on several occasions and slotting home the late winner, as Hernandez demonstrated he means business on his A-League return with a busy, accomplished display. Hersi was at his usual dangerous best for the Wanderers, supplying a beautiful cross for Tomi Juric's equaliser at Bluetongue. And Carrusca ran the show in the final third for Adelaide in their 3-1 win at home to Perth Glory.

FORWARDS

Alessandro DEL PIERO
Sydney FC

Harry KEWELL
Melbourne Heart

Del Piero produced a vintage goal to give Sydney the lead at home the Jets, evading challenges at will before slipping the ball home from a tight angle. Kewell meanwhile demonstrated he still has what it takes to make an impact, playing some pinpoint passes in the final third for Heart and spilling blood for his new cause
