With Chris Greenacre on the touchline after the resignation of Ricki Herbert, Muscat found himself back in defence.  Muscat's efforts for the Phoenix can never be questioned, and his determined performance at right-back against Melbourne Heart was typical.  Topor-Stanley takes his now customary place in defence in our XI, playing a huge part in stifling the Mariners on Saturday.  Central Coast had thumped Victory 6-2 just a week earlier, but found the Wanderers' defence a far tougher prospect.  Leijer is a constant threat from set-pieces and help continue Victory's early momentum against the Newcastle Jets.  The hosts' captain powered his header home to make it 2-0 after just 15 minutes, and was also resolute at the back, ending several weeks of unspectacular form for both he and his side.  Jamieson impressed against the team that deemed him unwanted last season, providing the dipping cross for Shane Smeltz's winner against Sydney FC on Saturday after collecting Liam Miller's short corner.  Jamieson's improved form saw a return to the Australia international fold late in 2012, and he has taken little time to win over interim Glory coach Alistair Edwards.

Broich was typically busy, again shouldering the playmaker's role as the Roar extended their undefeated run to three games.  The German was a threat from distance, won free kicks in dangerous positions and again demonstrated he will be crucial if his side is to claim a finals spot.  Miller was the man in the middle for Perth Glory, having a hand in both goals in his side's important 2-1 win over Sydney FC.  Glory coach Edwards handed Daniel De Silva, 15, his A-League debut against the Sky Blues, and the promising midfielder does not have to look past Miller for a role model.  Another Glory player completes the midfield trio, with Nagai showing the pace and drive that was perhaps missing at nib Stadium for much of the season.  The on-loan Japanese youngster did not find the back of the net, though not for lack of trying and he kept Vedran Janjetovic in the Sky Blues' goals on his toes all match.

Fact: Wellington have missed the best of Paul Ifill.  The veteran forward still possesses all the tricks that made him an instant A-League hit, but he has found it virtually impossible to remain injury free this season and the Phoenix are all the worse for it.  Ifill provided the cross for Brockie to hit home in Sunday's 1-0 win over Heart, and was a threat the visitors found impossible to contain.  Brockie takes the central role in this week's XI, with his winner against Heart one of the goals of the week.  A rare shining light for the Phoenix this season with 14 goals, the New Zealand international also found the back of the net in last Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Jets and squeezes out Shane Smeltz and Alessandro Del Piero here.  Brockie's international team-mate Rojas completes the trio, scoring a sensational brace in Victory's thumping of Newcastle.  Rojas must have had a contagious disease - only that can explain the reluctance of the Jets' defence as he ran riot in the game's opening stages.
