While January in East Asia is reserved for transfer announcements and winter training, it is also a time for the competition to heat up in Australia, West Asia, and even Europe.
This January saw league action kick off in Malaysia and Indonesia, and the UAE capture the Bahrain-hosted Gulf Cup of Nations in a thrilling final win over Iraq. Expansion side West Sydney Wanderers continued their rise up the A-League table, and as always there were plenty of Asian players representing their countries in European leagues.
So check out our selection for the Asia Team of the Month for January and see who made the cut!
