Team Of The Week:

Week 15

Table/Results

GOALKEEPER

Eugene GALEKOVIC
Adelaide United

Galekovic was superb against the Newcastle Jets on Saturday, producing three vital saves that helped Adelaide secure a draw away from home. He came up with a sharp reflex save in the first half to stop Ryan Griffiths' snap shot from finding the net, and then denied the striker again as he parried away a low drive that was heading into the bottom right-hand corner. Galekovic's biggest save of the match, however, came midway through the second half when, in a one on one situation, he used his left foot to save Adam Taggart's low strike after the substitute was played in well by Griffiths. It was another tremendous captain's performance from the Reds goalkeeper.

DEFENDERS

Pedj BOJIC
Central Coast

Mark MILLIGAN
Melbourne Victory

Zac ANDERSON
Central Coast

Adama TRAORE
Melbourne Victory

After serving a two-match suspension, Milligan wasted little time cementing his place in Goal.com's A-League team of the week with a man-of-the-match performance against the Phoenix. The Victory man may have featured at defensive midfield for his side but he wins a place at centre-back for us, having played a leading role in nullifying Wellington's attack. Milligan also caused havoc up front in the second half, hitting the post with a low drive before curling another delicate strike just wide of Mark Paston's left post. Victory team-mate Traore also regains his place in the team of the week after getting the better of his match-up against dangerous Phoenix winger Benjamin Totori. Traore's penchant for going forward was also nearly rewarded when the Ivorian defender saw his delicate low drive go just wide of the left post. Rounding out the back four are Mariners defenders Anderson and Bojic, who were outstanding against the in-form Wanderers on Sunday. Anderson continues to deputise well for the injured Patrick Zwaanswijk and was always on hand to stop Western Sydney's dangerous attacking plays. Bojic, meanwhile, produced a superb performance against the Wanderers as he gave Wanderers skipper Nik Topor-Stanley enormous headaches on the counter-attack. Bojic's defensive positioning was also first class after clearing Ono's strike off the line in the second half, shortly after blocking another shot from the former Japan international when the Mariners were short on numbers in defence.

MIDFIELDERS

Marco ROJAS
Melbourne Victory

Richard GARCIA
Melbourne Heart

Michael McGLINCHEY
Central Coast

McGlinchey was at his best against the Wanderers as he constantly tormented their defence, which has proved difficult to break down this season. He linked up well with Bojic and McBreen in attack and nearly scored a wonderful goal in the first half, but his low drive went just wide of Ante Covic's right post.  McGlinchey's New Zealand international team-mate Rojas also regains his place in this week's XI after another solid performance against Wellington. Flores set up Marcos Flores' opening goal after his cross found the Argentine late in the first half. He then sealed all three points for Victory when he tapped in from close range in the second half after linking up well with Billy Celeski in the lead-up. The 21-year-old also nearly set up Milligan and Archie Thompson in the second half to round off another strong showing. Joining Rojas and McGlinchey in the midfield is Garcia, who was instrumental in Hearts 3-2 win over the Roar. He dictated proceedings in midfield and produced a fine assist when he picked out David Williams with a angled through ball in the first half that the striker coolly slotted home.

FORWARDS

Shane SMELTZ
Perth Glory

Daniel McBREEN
Central Coast

Besart BERISHA
Brisbane Roar

Smeltz finally rediscovered his goal-scoring touch against Sydney FC, claiming both Perth's goals in the 2-2 draw against Frank Farina's men. Coming off lean performances against the Wanderers and Mariners, Smeltz was clinical against the Sky Blues. His first goal was the product of a superb header that found the bottom left-hand corner. Smeltz then restored the Glory's lead in the second half courtesy of a clinical first-time strike from the edge of the area. After missing last week's match against Perth due to suspension, McBreen demonstrated why he is the A-League's deadliest marksman thanks to his wonderful performance against the Wanderers. He constantly tormented Western Sydney's defence with his speed and trickery and was rewarded for his efforts when he scored the Mariners' opener after combining well with fellow striker Adam Kwasnik. McBreen then put the icing on the cake for the Mariners near full-time, calmly curling the ball into an empty net after the Wanderers squandered possession deep in their own half. Berisha also finds himself up front this week after his two-goal effort against the Heart. With the Roar trailing 3-0 well into the second half, Berisha breathed life into the contest, scoring two quick goals to provide Brisbane with a fighting chance of securing a remarkable draw when the match appeared all but over.
