A-League team of the week - Week 8: Socceroos hopefuls abound

The Mariners managed to stifle Brisbane's attacking options and Bojic was an integral part of that effort, while remaining an attacking outlet himself. He kept Henrique quiet until the Brazilian's substitution at half-time and was full of running on his flank. Sigmund is accompanied in the centre of defence by Milligan, who did an admirable job filling in at the back after Sam Gallagher was sent off early against Western Sydney. The Wanderers have lacked offensive impetus at home this season and Milligan continued their misery, with a Shinji Ono free kick the only real test for Nathan Coe in goal. Sigmund did well in an eventful game against the Glory, getting a vital foot in to stop a number of Perth's forays forward. For Perth, Jamieson was an attacking force down the left and his beautiful corner found Travis Dodd, who was unlucky not to score.

Montgomery is often unheralded in midfield, but his good defensive pressure complements the attacking prowess of more attacking team-mates like Rogic. Brisbane struggled to go forward despite holding the ball for large chunks of the game, and much of that was because of Montgomery's pressure and reading of the play.  Zadkovich's season has been more notable for his physical encounters, but he showed the other side of his game by playing a key part in engineering the Jets' comeback against Heart.  Scoring one and laying off another, the former Derby County midfielder thoroughly deserves his place.  Garcia completes the midfield trio, having particularly impressed with his attacking instincts.  Garcia scored twice and was brought down in the box, leading to the penalty Josip Tadic converted.

Even with only ten men, Rojas was productive on the counter attack and not afraid to run at the defence when he got the chance.  Rojas has improved his passing in the past couple of weeks, especially from the flanks [remember those near misses against the Jets in Week 4, when he tried to find Archie Thompson?], and this time his ball found Thompson for the Victory's second goal. In our XI as somewhat of a 'false nine', Vidosic is one of the most versatile front men in the league. His link up play means he is valuable in midfield or playing up high and his goal was a clinical finish on the half-volley. Newly capped Australia international Rogic continues to improve and his scoring prowess was there to see again, in the right place at the right time, as he coolly slotted home his third for the season against the Roar.
