Jones & Liverpool beaten as Herd's Villa win

The national team goalkeeper and the Aston Villa utility were among the Australians taking part in pre-season, with a host of English clubs contesting friendlies in North America

Socceroos skipper Mile Jedinak has returned to action with Crystal Palace but Adam Taggart was cut from Fulham's squad that flies to the US today.

Jedinak, who only returned to full training with Palace this week following his exploits at the World Cup, played 51 minutes as the Premier League club played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with MLS side Columbus Crew in in Ohio.

Jedinak put in a strong display before he was withdrawn by Palace manager Tony Pulis.

The Eagles made a slow start with the home side going in front on 15 minutes through Adam Beddell. Glenn Murray equalized with 10 minutes left until the break when he headed home Yannick Bolasie's centre.

After Jedinak made way shortly into the second half, Palace edged in front through youngster Jake Grey but they couldn't hold on with Daniel Paladini bringing the side's level 10 minutes from time.

Socceroos goalkeeper Brad Jones was part of Liverpool's hit-out with Serie A club Roma in Boston but was still on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat.

A dour contest with very few chances at Fenway park looked headed for penalties before Marco Borriello beat Jones from close range to hand the Italians victory.

Also in action in the US was Chris Herd, who played for Aston Villa as they defeated FC Dallas 2-0.

One player who has missed out on a trip across the Atlantic is Adam Taggart.

After playing in a friendly with Crawley Town a few days earlier, the former Newcastle Jet wasn't named in Fulham's touring squad for a game against DC United in Jacksonville.
