Kewell leaves Qatari club Al Gharafa

Veteran Australian forward Kewell is again clubless after his short-term deal at Al Gharafa expired, with countryman Mark Bresciano having returned from injury to take his spot Indonesia   By BREN O'BRIEN

Harry Kewell is back in the football wilderness after he was released by Qatari club Al Gharafa.

Kewell was hoping to re-ignite his stalled club career with the Qatari club, who brought him in as cover when their other Australian signing, Mark Bresciano, injured his knee in the 2-2 draw with Oman in Sydney.

The former Leeds, Liverpool, Galatasaray and Melbourne Victory star played three games in the Qatar Stars League, scoring a goal in the 2-0 win over Qatar SC.

But Bresciano has now returned to full fitness and, with Kewell only on a six-week contract, he has been released and has returned to England.

He is now in a search for a new club, but he is unlikely to have secures enough game time to figure in Holger Osieck's plans for the World Cup qualifiers in June.
