Australian midfielder Kyle Nix has found a new home, departing Belgium to sign with Thai Premier League Chiangrai United

Australian midfielder Kyle Nix has joined Thai Premier League club Chiangrai United after a successful trial.

The 27-year-old left-sided midfielder had spent the past six months with Belgian Third Division A outfit La Louviere, but has now become the latest Australian to move to the Thai top flight.

He had been on trial at the club along with Brazilian Jerry Farias, with the duo believed to have won one-year deals.

"The board and coaching decided to sign Nix and Farias as they performed well and look a comfortable fit in our style of play," club spokesman Chitwan Chinanuwat said.

Nix has already been heavily involved in pre-season matches for Chiangrai, helping the club win a pre-season tournament and scoring one memorable goal from a free kick.

Nix had spent the entirety of his career in the United Kingdom before moving to Belgium, with the former Manchester United and Aston Villa trainee having stints of note at Mansfield Town and Bradford City.

He represented England at several youth levels despite being born in Sydney.

Nix looks likely to play a big part for Chiangrai when the 2013 Thai Premier League season kicks off on March 3.

He was linked with a move to league rivals Suphanburi FC before signing with Chiangrai, joining the likes of Danny Invincible [Army United] and Goran Subara [Bangkok Glass] in the Thai Premier League.

Former Gold Coast United defender Ante Rozic had reportedly been on Chiangrai's radar before they swooped for Nix, with the 26-year-old said to be interesting other Thai clubs.
