Rangers are reportedly set to offer on-trial Australian forward Stella a deal, but have missed out on Socceroos prospect McGowan after the player rejected a move

Rangers have reportedly failed in two bids for Hearts' Australian defender Ryan McGowan, but countryman Francesco Stella is on the verge of joining the Scottish club.
McGowan has been a mainstay for Hearts this Scottish Premier League season, and gained his first Socceroos cap on August 15.
Reports in the UK claim Rangers - relegated to the Scottish Third Division due to their financial woes - had made a joint-£1 million bid for McGowan and team-mate David Templeton on transfer deadline day, but the offer was rejected by Hearts.
The Edinburgh club later accepted a bid for winger Templeton that did not include the Australian, but the likes of the BBC claimed McGowan, 23, would have rejected Rangers' offer anyway.
Rangers returned for McGowan and enticed him to Glasgow to meet club hierarchy late on deadline day, but the South Australian rejected their overtures to stay at Hearts.
His decision was confirmed soon after on Hearts' website: "... Ryan McGowan opted to remain at Hearts despite strong interest from Rangers," a statement read.
One Australian player that does appear set for a move to Ibrox is 21-year-old forward Francesco Stella.
The former South Melbourne player is available on a free transfer after leaving Serie A club Siena, and has been on trial at Rangers for the past two weeks.
