The young Australian midfielder scored his first senior goal for the Villans with a fine strike at Anfield, while Alex Brosque and James Troisi were also on the scoresheet

Young Australian midfielder Chris Herd opened his senior account for Aston Villa with a classy first-time strike in his side's 1-1 draw at Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.

Herd, who played 73 minutes in the draw, netted on 10 minutes but Liverpool levelled late on courtesy of Luis Suarez.

The Australian scored when Stephen Warnock's over-hit cross found Barry Bannan who centred for Herd to rifle a curling shot home.

Beyond his goal, Herd toiled hard in midfield although he did find the going difficult at times and his strike was the highlight of his performance before being replaced.

In Turkey's Super Lig, James Troisi set up two goals and scored one himself as Kayserispor routed relegated Ankaragucu 5-0 on Saturday.

Troisi squared for Emir Kujovic's 31st-minute goal, and netted his own three minutes later, when he raced forward and tapped home after Kujovic's layoff for his ninth of the season.

The Australian played in Diego Biseswar in the second-half and he raced in on goal before netting to make it 4-0.
