Wellington Phoenix have ended their season on a high with a 2-1 win over Melbourne City courtesy of a brace from teenager Sarpreet Singh.
Needing a win to avoid securing the wooden spoon at full-time, Wellington found themselves behind after 20 minutes when City striker Bruno Fornarolli netted a sensational goal from an acute angle.
A lively Phoenix outfit weren't going to roll over however and 19-year-old Singh continued his fine first season in the A-League to equalise in the 33rd minute.
After the break, it would be the teenager that again made the difference as his strike from distance took a fortunate deflection to find the back of the net.
With third spot wrapped up, City didn't have all that much to play for but didn't go quietly and hit the post in injury time in an ultimately unsuccessful search for an equaliser.
