The Sky Blues' new marquee striker is targeting silverware after being unveiled as the latest heavyweight recruit at the Harbour City club

Sydney FC's new striker Marc Janko says all he needs is the right service and he'll take care of the rest – and the tall, powerful Austrian wants to drag the Sky Blues back to their glory days.

"I have high expectations. I want to win titles and I hope we can celebrate after this season with the fans," the 1.96 metre forward said after he was unveiled as the club's new international marquee on Thursday.

Janko, a one-time Celtic target who speaks perfect English, said he wasn't a ready made replacement for departed playmaker Alessandro Del Piero.

For the 31-year-old Austrian international, who has been capped 40 times and scored 17 goals for his nation, it's all about what he does in and around the penalty box rather than dropping deep.

And that should be music to the ears of the Sky Blue fans, who now have in prospect a Shane Smeltz and Janko forward partnership with Alex Brosque and Bernie Ibini playing off them.

"I'm more the guy who is in the box – quite dangerous. If I get the balls there I can hopefully deliver. I'm not the guy who is creating – I need to get fed from the guys behind me."

Janko added that Sydney FC made him a priority signing, which the Austrian said helped his decision.

"They are people with a big philosophy," he said when asked about coach Graham Arnold's vision for the Hyundai A-League's under-achievers from Sydney's east.

Janko has had a good career in Europe. Most recently with Trabzonspor in the Turkish Superlig, he has also played - and hit the back of net frequently - with Red Bull Salzburg, FC Twente and Porto.

He added that getting into good physical shape was his main goal for pre-season.

"I'm very proud to have signed for the biggest club in Australia. I've heard only the best from the club and the fans – and I heard the fans are amazing and I’m really looking forward to play in front of them.

"I'm ambitious as a guy, I hate to lose even in training sessions.

"But I'm quite confident the team around me will help me do the utmost to have a good performance," he said.

"I hope we can win a lot of titles here together – that's why I'm here. I didn't come here for a vacation.

"So I'm really happy with the whole package and I really hope I can deliver on the expectations."
