One of the worst kept secrets in the A-League has now been confirmed, with Melbourne Heart officially unveiling their new Maltese striker
Melbourne Heart have confirmed the signing of Malta international Michael Mifsud on a one-year deal ahead of the 2013-14 A-League season.
Heart had been heavily linked with a move for the 32-year-old forward, and club chief executive Scott Munn last week confirmed they had agreed terms with the player.
Mifsud has joined on a free transfer after leaving Maltese club Valetta at the end of last season.
"Michael has scored goals at whatever level he has played at," Heart coach John Aloisi said on Wednesday.
"He is an exciting footballer and will be a dynamic influence in our attack.
"As the captain of Malta, he has played against the very best teams in the world and held his own. It's not easy to lead the line against the likes of Italy and Croatia, and test those defences, something which he has done regularly."
Mifsud, capped 96 times by Malta, has played for Kaiserslautern and Lillestrom, as well as Coventry City, memorably scoring to knock Manchester United out of the League Cup in 2007-08.
