The move of former Brisbane Roar attacker Mitch Nichols to Melbourne Victory has been confirmed by his new club.

The 24-year-old has penned a two-year deal at Victory, where he will reunite with former Roar coach Ange Postecoglou.

The decision of one-time Australia international Nichols to leave the Roar was made public on Friday, having been linked with a move to Victory for some time.

The speculation turned reality on Monday, with the announcement Nichols had spurned opportunities abroad to sign with the Melbourne club.

"I'm really excited to be joining Melbourne Victory and linking up with Ange again," he said via club statement.

"I've enjoyed six great seasons and plenty of success at Brisbane Roar but I just felt it was time for a change, so when Melbourne came calling I didn't hesitate - even though I still had options in Europe.

"I want to thank the Brisbane fans, the club and my former team mates for all they have done for me throughout the last six seasons. I leave with fond memories and close friendships that will stay with me forever, but now I look forward to a new and exciting chapter in my career."

Nichols made 125 appearances during his time with the Roar, who he joined in 2007.  He had trialled at Danish club Randers before the 2012-13 A-League season, eventually staying with Brisbane.

But his form - like that of his team - became inconsistent after the departure of Postecoglou, and he will be relishing the chance to again play under the two-time A-League title-winning coach.

"It's an exciting time at Melbourne Victory and acquiring an Australian player of Mitch’s quality is testament to that," Postecoglou said.

"For someone so young he's achieved a lot in his career to date, but he's still extremely hungry for more success and he'll add some real attacking flair to our group.

"Goal-scoring midfielders aren't easy to come by and Mitch’s track-record speaks for itself, so I'm looking forward to seeing him on the first day of pre-season training."

Elsewhere, the Newcastle Jets have snapped up striker Joey Gibbs on a one-year deal.  The 20-year-old was released by Western Sydney Wanderers in April.
