A-League player of the year Marco Rojas has signed a four-year deal with Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart.
The New Zealand international left Melbourne Victory at the end of the 2012-12 A-League season in order to pursue opportunities abroad, reportedly attracting interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen.
But Stuttgart moved smartest to land the 21-year-old winger, handing him a long-term deal.
"I had attended the game against Furth and the atmosphere in the stadium is impressive… It is very exciting that I can see that on the field " Rojas told the club's website.
He praised Stuttgart for their conduct during his medical and the negotiation process: "For a player, it's a great thing when a club shows that they want you. I am looking forward to my time here. It is a great challenge."
The former Wellington Phoenix speedster scored 15 goals in the 2012-13 campaign, with his new club delighted at Rojas' potential.
"Marco has just been voted player of the year in Australia but that's not the only reason we noticed him,'' Stuttgart's head of sports and former Germany striker Fredi Bobic told the club's website.
"He is a player who is well used to the attacking wide positions and provides speed.
"It will be interesting to see how quickly he can get used to the pace in Germany.''
