After weather again forced the cancellation of the final-round match, Melbourne Victory have been confirmed as National Youth League champions
Melbourne Victory have been crowned National Youth League champions, Football Federation Australia has confirmed.
The decision comes after the Round 18 match between Victory and the Central Coast Mariners had been postponed for the second time, with severe weather on Sunday in Gosford forcing the already rescheduled game to be again called off.
Victory and the Mariners were level on 37 points, with the former possessing a far superior goal difference, before what was to have been their final match.
The former had taken to Twitter to congratulate coach Damien Davies and his players for their NYL title win soon after the announcement of the second cancellation on Sunday, with the FFA confirming Victory were champions on Tuesday.
"While a decision of this nature is never easy, the regulations provided for cancellation and the competing clubs agreed under the circumstances that this was the right decision," head of A-League Damien de Bohun said via statement.
"We congratulate both Melbourne Victory and Central Coast Mariners on their success during the NYL 2012-13 season."
