Fitzgerald to link up with Mariners early after Roar exit

Having already agreed a switch to the Central Coast at the end of the season, Nick Fitzgerald has now been granted an early release by Brisbane to link up with the Mariners Indonesia   By KIERAN FRANCIS

Central Coast signing Nick Fitzgerald will be available to play for the club for the rest of the season after mutually terminating his contract with Brisbane Roar.

The 20-year-old attacker's contract at Roar expired at the end of the season, and the Australia youth international had agreed to join the Mariners from the start of the next campaign.

With the versatile attacker not featuring in first-team plans, however, Mariners manager Graham Arnold had called for Brisbane to release Fitzgerald.

That wish was granted on Wednesday, with the youngster joining the Gosford-based club tomorrow on a two-and-half-year contract.

Fitzgerald made 20 appearances and scored three goals for the Roar over two seasons, figuring in both their championship seasons.

"I'd really like to thank all the players, [Roar coach] Mike Mulvey and [general manager] Sean Dobson," he said.

"I've had a good two years here in Brisbane and really enjoyed my time at the club."

It will be Fitzgerald's second spell at Central Coast after making one appearance for the Mariners in 2010.
