Newcastle Jets have bolstered their midfield with the signing of creative midfielder Zenon Caravella on an 18-month contract.
Caravella won Adelaide United's player of the year last season but was released on Tuesday after struggling for opportunities during the current campaign.
Jets coach Gary Van Egmond was pleased to have snapped up the 29-year-old, who was part of Holger Osieck's Australia camp in 2011.
"We are really happy to acquire Zenon, not only for this season but for next season as well," he said.
"Zenon will be a great acquisition because of his technical abilities and the way he works in a game but just as importantly, for his great leadership."
Jets chief executive officer Robbie Middleby also hailed the signing as one that could have a significant impact on the team.
"It is fantastic to have someone of his experience, reputation and versatility join the Jets," he said.
Caravella, joining his fourth A-League club after stints with New Zealand Knights and Gold Coast, was excited to continue his career in Newcastle.
"I am really excited to be joining the Jets and grateful that Gary [van Egmond] has given me this opportunity during the season," he said.
"I have always found that the Jets have a never-give-up attitude and I'm looking forward to being a part of this club and playing in front of the Newcastle fans."
