The Western Sydney Wanderers have rounded out their foreign spots for their debut season, announcing the signing of Italian defender Iacopo La Rocca and Dutch midfielder Youssouf Hersi on Tuesday.

The duo had been on trial at the Wanderers for two weeks and have now joined on official terms, signing for the 2012-13 A-League campaign.

They bring coach Tony Popovic's squad to 18 ahead of the Wanderers' inaugural top-flight match on October 6 against the Central Coast Mariners.

"I'm excited about what these guys will bring to our squad," Popovic said via statement.

"They are both experienced players who have spent a number of years in different parts of the world so they will definitely bring a different style to our team but will definitely fit in with what we are wanting to achieve.

"Iacopo will add to our defensive area of the pitch and will relish the opportunity to work with guys like Michael [Beauchamp] and Nikolai [Topor-Stanley] whilst Youssouf will add a lot of speed and skill to our midfield which will benefit our squad."

La Rocca, 28, is at home at the back or as a defensive midfielder, and spent the early part of his career in the lower leagues of his native Italy before spells in the Swiss Super League with Bellinzona and Grasshopper.

He featured on 19 occasions - starting 16 times - for the latter in the 2011-12 campaign.

Hersi, 30, boasts a solid playing resume that has taken in the top-flights of the Netherlands, Greece and Cyprus.

Joining the Wanderers after short spell with Alki Larnaca in the Cypriot First Division, Hersi was born in Ethiopia but represented the Netherlands at Under-21 level earlier in his career.

The skilful attacking midfielder was a noted goalscorer in spells with Eredivisie clubs Vitesse Arnhem and NEC, also spending time at the likes of FC Twente and Ajax.
