Alessandro Del Piero could be set to sign with Sydney FC, with media speculation having exploded claiming the deal has been done.
Media reports claim Sydney FC will announce Del Piero's signing at a press conference in Turin, Italy on Wednesday at 7pm (AEST).
Sydney FC chief executive officer Tony Pignata and Australian player agent Lou Sticca, who has strong links with Del Piero's former club Juventus, arrived in Italy on Monday to try and secure the 37-year-old striker's signature.
While Sydney FC have yet to confirm anything, media reports and online speculation rapidly grew late on Tuesday as reports claimed Del Piero has agreed to come and play in the A-League.
Pignata and Sydney FC have reportedly offered Del Piero $2 million to play one season in the A-League, which starts in October.
The former Juventus forward played 513 league games for the Serie A club and scored 208 goals in his 19 seasons with the Turin-based club.
Del Piero has been linked with Tottenham, Celtic, Southampton and Swiss club Sion since leaving Juventus at the end of the 2011-12 season.
But since Sydney FC first made their interest known last week, the A-League club has moved up the pecking order with Pignata having been invited to Italy over the weekend to continue negotiations.
