thumbnail Hello,

Aloisi has strengthened his attack with the signing of former Gold Coast United prospect Mebrahtu, while Gray adds to his defensive options

Melbourne Heart have added both youth and experience with the double-signing of forward Golgol Mebrahtu and defender Steven Gray.

Having made his first swoop as Heart coach with the capture of Liberia international midfielder Patrick Gerhardt on June 22, John Aloisi has further strengthened his squad with Mebrahtu and Gray.

Former Gold Coast United attacker Mebrahtu, 21, has signed a two-year contract, while Irish left-sided defender Gray, 30, joins on a one-year deal.

Sudan-born Mebrahtu made 26 appearances for United over a three-season stint, while Southampton trainee Gray - also formerly of Irish clubs Bohemians, Derry City and Drogheda United - moves from Victorian Premier League outfit Oakleigh Cannons.

They bring the new faces in the Heart squad ahead of the 2012-13 A-League season to four, and Aloisi's squad to 17.

"Both Steven and Golgol will bring a lot to our club," Aloisi said.

"I watched Steven up and close in Hawaii, where he played with our youth team in a tournament against some excellent opposition, and he played really well. He's a leader by nature and likes to coach on the pitch, which is really important to the the development of our young players and will be valuable to our squad mix this season.

"Golgol meanwhile is an exciting talent. We saw how he played up on the Gold Coast; he is great one v one and is lightning quick. We want fast mobile players up front, and he suits the way we want to play football. We can help him develop as a player, and I hope he will bring a lot to the team."
