Heracles Almelo has the exercised the option in Jason Davidson's contract to extend his time at the club for another two seasons. Australian defender Davidson - son of former Socceroo Alan - joined the Eredivisie outfit from Portuguese club Pacos de Ferreira in December, making his debut in March. He has started the last four matches for Heracles, leading to his contract extension. "Jason has done well in recent months," Heracles managing Director Nico-Jan Hoogma told the club's website. "He is a young left-footed defender with potential at multiple positions. In recent, weeks he has filled central defence well."
Juventus' return to Australia for a glamour friendly is reportedly off. The Serie A heavyweights were tipped to play a match in May against A-League opposition - with Sydney FC most heavily linked - in what would also double as fan favourite Alessandro del Piero's farewell for the club. But with del Piero's availability uncertain, along with that of the club's players ahead of Euro 2012, the match appears to have been shelved. Juventus toured Australia in 2008.
Ben Sigmund made Wellington Phoenix history on Tuesday after being named the club's player of the year for a second time. The defender took home four awards in all, winning the players' player, the media player and members' player honours as well. The 31-year-old was the first player to be named player of the year twice after winning the same award last season. Sigmund played a huge part in getting the Phoenix to the playoffs for the third successive time. He also scored some crucial goals, including the match-winner against Perth in December and Wellington's second in the 3-2 elimination final win against Sydney in March.
