thumbnail Hello,

It was largely hard work, and not the spectacular, which helped formed the side in Week 21 - check out who made Goal.com's A-League team of the week

A-League

Team Of The Week:

Week 21

Table/Results

GOALKEEPER

Clint BOLTON
Melbourne Heart

It was tough to decide between three outstanding goalkeeping performances from Week 21.  Mark Paston kept a desperate Sydney FC at bay for the Wellington Phoenix, Jerrad Tyson followed suit for Gold Coast United and Melbourne Heart shot-stopper Clint Bolton turned back the clock in Sunday's win over the Central Coast Mariners.  The latter gets the nod - just - due to the weight of opposition and the fact that he was crucial in guiding his club to victory over the Mariners for the first time in Heart's short history.

DEFENDERS

Aziz BEHICH
Melbourne Heart

Andrew DURANTE
Wellington Phoenix

Ivan FRANJIC
Brisbane Roar

Behich may not always be where he needs to be defensively, but there was little doubt about the attacking threat the Heart left-back offered in his side's 1-0 win over Central Coast on Sunday.  His battle with Mariners right-back Pedj Bojic was enthralling, even if his first-half clash with Mat Ryan was somewhat unsavoury.  Durante received his call-up based on a stoic display in the Phoenix defence against Sydney FC a day earlier, while a typically marauding performance from Franjic wins him a place in the side for the first time.

MIDFIELDERS

Brett EMERTON
Sydney FC

Paul REID
Melbourne Heart

Ben KANTAROVSKI
Newcastle Jets

Golgol MEBRAHTU
Gold Coast United

Few would receive a team-of-the-week summoning based on a 52-minute showing, but Kantarovski makes the cut after putting aside any jetlag in one of his best displays of the season.  Kantarovski had only arrived back in Australia from Olyroos duty several hours before the Jets' match with Adelaide, but shook off any fatigue to show his class.  At the other end of the age scale, Reid helped blanket the output of in-form midfielder Tom Rogic, keeping the space around the exciting 19-year-old to a minimum.  Fellow veteran Emerton was on the losing side on Saturday but not through his lack of trying.  Mebrahtu's search for a first A-League goal continues, but his energetic showing - particularly after the loss of Ben Halloran to injury - helped United gain something out of their match with Victory.

FORWARDS

Francis JEFFERS
Newcastle Jets

Besart BERISHA
Brisbane Roar

Nick FITZGERALD
Brisbane Roar

Berisha's position - for the second-successive week - needs little explanation, with the always entertaining Albanian having scored a brace as the Roar saw off Perth 3-0.  With 17 goals for the campaign now, Berisha is surely the signing of the A-League season.  He is joined up front by young flyer Nick Fitzgerald, who was energetic throughout the Roar's victory and contributed the assist for Berisha's second goal.  Veteran Jets frontman Jeffers was similarly busy, going unrewarded in terms of goals but playing a crucial role in his side's winner against Adelaide.
