Should they reach the World Cup finals, the Socceroos could face hosts Brazil in a high-profile friendly in September
Australia could face 2014 World Cup hosts Brazil in a friendly should the Socceroos seal a place at the tournament.
Goal Australia understands negotiations are underway, with the friendly likely to take place in September.
The high-profile match, however, hinges on the Socceroos' ability to reach the World Cup finals, which will be confirmed should Holger Osieck's men account for Iraq on Tuesday.
Brazil Football Association announced in April it would face Portugal in Boston on September 10, revealing a September 6 match in Brasilia had been set aside for a match against as-yet undetermined opponents.
The proposed friendly has also been reported in Brazil, with noted O Globo journalist Gois Ancelmo breaking the news on Wednesday.
