The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to St James' Park after the Magpies sold Demba Ba to Chelsea earlier in January.
Remy's Marseille team-mate Joey Barton wished the France international good luck at his former club on Sunday, and reports in France claim that he will not feature in this evening's Ligue 1 match against Sochaux.
Instead, it is suggested that he will travel to Tyneside in order to negotiate personal terms with the Premier League club.
"We have an agreement in principle with Newcastle, it is true," Labrune told the RMC Sport radio station in France.
"We have therefore given Loic permission to chat with them. For the rest, we must wait patiently."
Marseille's sporting director, Jose Anigo, has previously admitted that Remy could leave the south coast club to move to the English top flight.
QPR manager Harry Redknapp, however, revealed that the striker had declined to discuss a possible switch to Loftus Road after he had travelled to France to watch him in action.
Newcastle declined to comment on the speculation surrounding Remy or Barton's tweet when contacted by Goal.com on Sunday afternoon.
