The long-running transfer saga had hit snags over payments due to the Belgian, but a move is now thought to be imminent according to a representative of the player
Tottenham are close to sealing a deal for Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen, with an announcement possibly set for Friday.
Spurs' move for the Belgian has been the most drawn-out transfer of the summer so far, but it appears that the second signing of Andre Villas-Boas' reign is now edging to completion.
The switch was thought to have hit a snag over a payment due to the centre-back thanks to a clause in his contract, but a representative of the 25-year-old's agent has revealed the transfer is imminent.
"We have scheduled a meeting on Friday morning, where we will try and reach an agreement with Ajax," a spokesperson for Nakhli Mondial said to De Telegraaf.
"There are some developments and we hope to reach an agreement."
Spurs have already had a busy pre-season, appointing Villas-Boas as their new manager before sealing a deal for Gylfi Sigurdsson at the beginning of the week.
And things may continue in a similar fashion, with the former Chelsea boss reportedly given a £70 million transfer budget as the north London club look to break back into the Champions League.
