Shanghai Shenhua - the home of former Newcastle Jets and Australia forward Joel Griffiths - are poised to complete their foreign quota for the 2012 Chinese Super League season with the loan signing of Reading striker Mathieu Manset.

Shenhua, who made worldwide headlines in December when they landed Nicolas Anelka and Jean Tigana, had been chasing several big-name players including Chelsea's Didier Drogba and ex-England international defender Matthew Upson.

However, Shenhua are now set to complete their five-man foreign quota with the addition of French striker Manset, having signed Bosnian defensive midfielder Mario Bozic and Brazilian centre back Moises Moura Pinheiro in the past week. Griffiths - who signed for Shenhua in January - is the club's other foreigner.

An unidentified Shenhua official told Sina.com that Manset would join the club on a six-month loan believed to be worth €900,000. It is reported that Shanghai have sent the contract to England and it would be signed on Tuesday.

"Manset is likely to go to the Premier League in the latter half of the year," the official said.

"But things could get complicated if Manset plays well and the coach insists that he should stay for the whole season."

The half-season loan deal leaves the door open for Drogba, who has made it clear he is committed to his current club until the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

Meanwhile, Shenhua have also denied a rumour linking them with a €3.3m move for Turkey international midfielder Emre Belozoglu in the European summer.
