Neymar in line for Fifa best goal award

The Brazil star’s Confederations Cup strike against Japan has been nominated by football’s world governing body as one of the very best in the last 12 months
Neymar has been named among the 10 nominees for Fifa's Puskas award for the best goal of the year.

As part of the lead up to the annual Ballon d'Or ceremony, 10 of the top strikes over the past 12 months are available for football fans to choose from, with the options to be whittled down to the three most popular on December 9.

The Brazil forward gets the nod for his strike against Japan at this summer's Confederations Cup and he could become the first player to win the award twice, having claimed the prize in 2011 for a solo effort against Flamengo while playing for Santos.

However the Selecao star - who will be in action for Brazil in this month’s Gillette International Soccer Series as Brazil take on Honduras in Miami before facing Chile in Toronto - faces stiff competition for the award.

Neymar’s spectacular volley will go up against the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s stunning overhead kick against England and Antonio Di Natale’s sublime volley against Chievo.

The winning goal will be announced at the Ballon d'Or ceremony on January 13.
