'It's a magic moment for him' - Goal's World Player of the Week Giuseppe Rossi

World Player of the Week
Giuseppe Rossi
AGE 26
PLAYS FOR Fiorentina/Italy

Italy 2-2 Armenia
4-2 Juventus

With 65 minutes gone and 2-0 down at home to Juventus, the signs were pretty ominous for Fiorentina, who had not recorded victory over the Bianconeri in Florence since 1998.

However, Giuseppe Rossi continued his incredible comeback this season by producing a stunning 15-minute hat-trick to overturn the deficit and ensure a memorable win for Vincenzo Montella's men.

It's a remarkable story, given the problems the 26-year-old has had with fitness setbacks over the past couple of seasons, Montella is reaping the rewards for giving him the chance to get his career back on track.

Goal's Simone Gambino gave the Italy international a glowing endorsement: "Giuseppe Rossi, with a hat-trick against Juventus, has metaphorically turned the corner after serious injuries suffered in the last two years.

"It's a magic moment for him: he's been outstanding in the first part of Fiorentina season, he's the Serie A top scorer with eight goals in eight games played and he has just celebrated his return to the Italy national team.

"At the beginning of the season there were doubts about his physical condition, but so far he has been incredible, becoming the new idol of Fiorentina fans.

"Yesterday's game is the first Fiorentina win against Juventus since 1998: Gabriel Batistuta was then the protagonist, now it's 'Pepito's' time.

"Rossi is one of Cesare Prandelli's favourites and he is expected to be a starter in the next World Cup, making a very gifted pair with Mario Balotelli."

Congratulations to Giuseppe Rossi, Goal's 232nd World Player of the Week winner!
